Each batch of fiber is carefully weighed at several points along the way, and each time the weight is noted on the paper that accompanies it from beginning to end.

The fiber separator is carefully calibrated to separate different lengths or types of fiber; in some cases, as with bison wool, the soft undercoat is separated from the coarse guard hair.

The usable fiber comes out as a very light, puffy cloud.
